MasterCraft Kitchens
Building an inspiring digital platform from a robust CMS.
Reimagining the digital, kitchen building experience.
The client had an existing digital presence and brand online that was visually out of date. The brief, established from a workshop with the client, was to modernise and simplify both the identity and the digital experience of their service. We came up with the concept of inspiring the customer using beautiful imagery of their kitchens that designers had already crafted and built for their customers. This was then developed through the stages of research, design, building, and finally the launch. These stages are outlined below, and left us with a truly successful solution to the brief that the client was ecstatic with.
The user personas were a crucial element to the design process. We had to get in the mind of the different types of users that would be looking to build their own kitchens. These ranged from young couples to retirees, who naturally want different things from their dream kitchen. The product itself was middle tier in terms of pricing so the experience had to represent this. People who matched these personas were reached out to and feedback was obtained into exactly what they would expect from the digital experience, including their needs and previous pain-points. Once this initial phase was concluded, user journeys were mapped out for each persona and the initial site map was created.

One of the main considerations of the brief was that the client wanted to be able to fully manage the site through a robust CMS (HubSpot), and generate new pages using a range of templates we would develop for them. The design system had to accommodate for this. This consisted of the initial design of the key building blocks: components, typography, buttons and grid system. From here, a wide range of modules were built, followed by the development of page templates to fit the use cases the client had requested for adding content to the site. This adaptable system worked perfectly and was demonstrated within Figma, with a full functioning site prototype that we were able to walk the client through.

The development was briefed in and led by us. The site had to be built with the CMS as the main way to populate content. The website and the CMS needed to align to ensure that the uploaded content would display correctly. Key factors that were taken into consideration included; file sizes, types of content, quantity of information and the layout. User training sessions were conducted with the nationwide team, flexible to their specific needs. The development of the CMS met the client needs perfectly. User testing was conducted to see how each of the persona types experienced the site and any feedback they had. We also conducted both qualitative and quantitative user research with the completed site before launch. The site launched successfully in 2022.
